Create Your Literary Legacy

Including UC Press in your will or estate plan is a rewarding way to share your dedication to important ideas with the next generation of readers. All bequest intentions will be recognized with membership in the Perennius Society, whose members enjoy a range of benefits.

Providing for UC Press in your estate plans may bring tax advantages as well. Please consult your attorney or financial advisor for determining the giving vehicle appropriate to your circumstances. A few options to consider include:

Bequests
One of the easiest ways to perpetuate your appreciation of the written word is to provide for UC Press in your will. All bequests are exempt from federal inheritance taxes. You may designate a specific amount or percentage of your assets to come to UC Press for support of particular publishing programs or to be used where most needed.

Retirement Assets
Reduce income and estate taxes for your heirs by leaving a portion of your retirement funds to UC Press. Simply name UC Press Foundation (tax ID #94-2682969) as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other qualified plan.

If you are at least 70-1/2 years old and have an IRA, the Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows you to make tax-free distributions from your IRA for charitable purposes. There is a limit of $100,000 total giving per year, and the law is effective only for 2006 and 2007. To quality for the tax exemption, simply direct your IRA trustee to make a payment directly to UC Press Foundation.

Life Income Gifts
Life income gifts may be made through gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts. Transfer assets to UC Press Foundation and you and your chosen beneficiary receive income for a term of years or for life. You receive an immediate tax reduction, and at the conclusion of the term, the remainder of the gift is distributed to the UC Press Foundation.
